Urban Explorers: Metro

Sunday 27 April 202514.00–16.00

Jump on the Metro with artist and photographer Euan Lynn in this tour of one of the region’s great modernist marvels.

The Tyne & Wear Metro not only connects the region, but is a modernist marvel, employing system building techniques to create a unified and unique system. Join artist and photographer Euan Lynn on this exploration of the Metro’s inner-city, underground section, from the airy Miesian Jesmond to the underground cavern of Gateshead, and finishing at the wonderfully labyrinthine Monument. As well as providing unique insights and historical context to the Metro’s past and present, Euan will offer some practical photographic advice to help you document the experience – whether you’re using an iPhone or film.

Important information

  • The tour runs 14.00–16.00. The group will meet at the Farrell Centre.
  • Attendees are expected to provide their own tickets for the Metro.
  • When not on the Metro, the tour is on foot and will involve considerable walking.
  • In April the weather can be changeable and attendees are advised to ensure they are prepared for all conditions.
