Urban Explorers: Dunston Staiths

Saturday 12 September10:30–12:30

Explore the North East’s urban past and present during this programme of walking tours. In September, we’ll be exploring Dunston Staiths and the surrounding area.

The Staiths played a vital role in moving coal onto collier ships up until the 1980s, when they fell into decay following the decline of the coal industry on Tyneside. However in recent years, the area has become a cultural hub, hosting various community events and celebrating the heritage and nature of the area as part of the Tyne Derwent Way.
