Workshops

Rituals of Remembering: I heard a Sound

Saturday 6 September11.30–13.00

Join A. Martinez In this discussion-based creative workshop which aims to provide a space and structure for participants to open and deepen their  experience of grief, loss, and remembering.

In this intimate workshop participants are invited to consider Solastalgia , a process of connecting to their own lived experiences and the sounds of their pasts. This workshop is a way to honour our stories through environmental sound, and begin to grieve what’s lost, and to heal.

Participants will engage in small group discussion as well as independent writing prompts. Participants will also have an opportunity to share within a larger group as a way to reflect and connect as a community.

About the contributor:

A. Martinez is an interdisciplinary visual and social practice artist, poet, and facilitator based in Chicago.

About the Symposium:

The Sound and Environment Symposium has been organised by Newcastle University’s Sound + Environment Research Group, exploring the ways sound can deepen our understanding of environments and the communities inhabiting them.
