Quayside Community Archive

The Quayside is a defining feature in Newcastle but it was once in a state of disrepair. With the work of Sir Terry Farrell, the Quayside was re-imagined to become the vibrant- urban destination it is today.

In this creative workshop, we will draw on a variety of archive materials to remember the Quayside prior to the regeneration project of the 1990s. Together, we will explore how the Quayside has changed and consider the area as it is now and how we interract with the space. Finally, we will venture into the “what ifs”, and explore what could have been on the Quayside, like the possibility of a Ferris wheel to rival the London Eye.

As part of this workshop, participants will be able to construct their own model of a building designed for the Quayside’s future to form the first part of a community art project. Materials for this will be provided.

We will be looking at images, pamphlets and film of the Quayside from the Farrell Centre’s archive, participants are encouraged to bring their own photographs or other items to share relating to the Quayside and its history.
