When you arrive
The Farrell Centre is a colourful building with large windows in every room that overlook busy Barras Bridge and Claremont Road.
The building is organised over three levels. There are displays and activities on Levels 1 and 2. These are bright, colourful spaces which can get busy with families and school groups. There is plenty to get involved with – this could be creating a tower from straws and tape or designing your own city skyline, as well as activities related to our exhibitions.
There are friendly staff on Levels 1 and 2. They can assist you with taking part in activities or answer any questions about the Farrell Centre. There is also a Quiet Space on Level 2, with a sofa and fidget/sensory toys. This room can be used by any visitor.
Exploring the Farrell Centre
Level 0 – Visitor Welcome + Atrium
Find our main entrance, accessible toilet, bleacher seating (often with film installation) and welcome desk. Here, you will be greeted by a member of our audience engagement team. They can provide information, a hearing loop, architecture explorer packs and sensory backpacks. There is space to leave buggies, scooters etc.
Level 1 – Exhibitions
Every year, the Farrell Centre and our visitors embark on a new project. Each project includes exhibitions, activities, workshops and talks. Through our projects, we explore what it means to live in a city and how architecture, planning and landscape shape our lives and help us build a better city for everyone.
The main exhibition for each project can be found on Level 1 of the Farrell Centre.
Level 2 – Urban Rooms, Quiet Space and Toilets
The Urban Rooms are a space to explore, play, learn and shape the city around you. In each room you will find displays, activities and objects relating to the themes of Plan, Build and Participate. Get involved with talks and workshops or be inspired by one our craft activities. With free making materials, lego, soft play and more, there is something for all ages!
