When is the Centre open?

We are open Wednesday to Friday, 13.00–16.00. In addition, we are open the second Saturday of each month.

Where are we?

We are based in the north of Newcastle city centre, on the edge of the Newcastle University campus. You can find us between Northern Stage and Great North Museum: Hancock, just off Barras Bridge or Claremont Road. Our address is: The Sir Terry Farrell Building, Eldon Place, Newcastle upon Tyne, NE1 7RD.

How much does it cost to visit?

The Farrell Centre is free to visit, including our access to all our exhibitions, many of our events and our Urban Rooms.

Where is the closest place to park?

The Farrell Centre has no public parking on site. The closest car park can be found on Claremont Road at 21 B1318, Newcastle upon Tyne, NE2 4AA. This is approximately an 8-minute walk. Blue badge holders without a university permit should only use our accessible bays during public parking hours.

How can I get here using public transport?

We are a 5-minute walk from Haymarket Bus Station, which is serviced by several routes, and a 2-minute walk from Haymarket Metro Station. We are a 20-minute walk or short metro journey from Newcastle Central Station, which is on Westgate Road. From Newcastle Central Station follow signs towards the Newcastle University campus.

Where can I leave my bike?

Bikes, scooters, or the like are NOT permitted to be brought into or taken through the building. Bike stands are provided on Eldon Place opposite the Farrell Centre entrance. Any children’s bikes, scooters or buggies can be left at the Buggy Park (valuables left at owner’s own risk) on Level 0.

Where is the building entrance?

There are two entrances to the building, one on Claremont Road, and one on Eldon Place (accessible).

Do you have accessible toilets?

Yes, these are available on both Level 0 and Level 2.

Do you have baby change facilities?

Yes, in our accessible toilets on Level 0 and Level 2. We also have a potty training toilet in the accessible toilet on Level 2.
Our accessible toilets are gender neutral, all are welcome to use them.

Where are the nearest changing places facilities?

The nearest changing places toilet is located on the ground floor of the Henry Daysh Building on the Newcastle University campus, this is a 2-minute walk from the Farrell Centre. It is accessible via radar key, and can be accessed out of hours by prior arrangement through the University Security Service. Please call 0191 2086817. Please note that this facility is only accessible during the week, Wed-Fri 8am – 5pm.

Do you have a push chair drop-off?

Yes, pushchairs/prams can be left on Level 0 behind the welcome point. Please take all personal belongings with you as this area is not always monitored by a member of staff.

Is there somewhere I can eat my lunch in the Farrell Centre? Do you have a café?

We do not have a café, however we are next to Claremont Teahouse, which offers food and drink. There are also many great places to grab some food around the University campus, find out more on the University’s Eat on Campus page. We have spaces on site where visitors can sit and eat picnic food on Level 0, the bleachers seating area, and the benches on Level 1, ask a member of staff for more information.

If the weather is nice there is also plenty of outdoor seating areas available. There are benches available outside Northern Stage (right up Eldon Place, then left) and additional seating (and sculptures) in the main Quad. This area is away from all the main roads and has plenty of space to sit and eat so if perfect for families looking for a place to picnic.

I’ve lost something, where can I find my lost property?

We keep a record of all lost items handed in or found within the building. We will keep items for a maximum of 3 months before disposal. Please email us at farrellcentre@newcastle.ac.uk or ring us on (0191) 208 0071 in order to inquire about an item you think you’ve lost in the Farrell Centre and we will do our best to help.

Do you have lockers?

We do not currently offer lockers for visitors.

I want to hold my event here, how can I inquire about this? We offer several spaces for event hire, primarily our Level 0 Atrium and Level 2 Urban Rooms. Please email us for more information at farrellcentre@newcastle.ac.uk
