Urban Explorers: Byker Estate

Saturday 14 March11:00–13:00

Explore the architecture of Newcastle’s fabled Byker Estate in this walking tour led by artist and photographer Euan Lynn.

The Byker Estate, designed by a team led by Ralph Erskine, is an internationally-renowned example of mass social housing, filled with bright colours and wooden panelling and sheltered by a huge ‘Wall’. Join us as we explore the estate and learn about its history, the test-bed Pilot Scheme section and see how it was built to foster a community.

In this guided walk, Euan Lynn will provide unique insights and historical context to Byker’s past and present, as well as offering some practical photographic advice to help you document the experience – whether you’re using an iPhone or film.
